For golfers who know the Algarve, the name "Dom Pedro" was once synonymous with Vilamoura golf. That era has now officially given way to something new.
The four iconic Dom Pedro courses have completed a full rebrand and now sit under a single identity: Vilamoura Golf. This is far more than a name change. It is a statement of intent, and a central piece of Vilamoura's evolution into a world-class destination for sport, leisure and lifestyle.
A Deliberate Rebrand, Not a Simple Rename
The Vilamoura Golf brand unites four distinct courses: Pinhal, Laguna, Millennium and the legendary Old Course.
The Old Course, opened in 1969 and designed by Frank Pennink, is the second oldest course in the Algarve and a cornerstone of the region's golfing heritage. Known affectionately as the "Grande Dame," it remains one of the most celebrated rounds in Portugal.

It also reflects the significant investments made by funds managed by Arrow Global in the region, with operations handled by Details – Hospitality, Sports, Leisure.
More Than a New Logo: Real Investment in the Courses
The rebrand sits on top of substantial, tangible upgrades.
The Old Course renovation is a headline project. At the end of 2024, Details announced the completion of a full renovation of the Old Course and its clubhouse, described as offering "modern facilities that combine vintage charm with a contemporary touch, offering a welcoming space for members, guests and the Vilamoura community."
The clubhouse now features a refined dining and social space, with relaxed daytime offerings and Mediterranean-inspired evening dining from Thursday to Saturday, blending Portuguese tradition with Mediterranean flair.
An English gastro bar pays homage to designer Frank Pennink's British roots, serving both classic British dishes and authentic Portuguese cuisine.
The course itself has benefited from more drought-tolerant grass species and an upgraded irrigation system, underlining a commitment to sustainability.
The opening of Els Club Vilamoura is perhaps the most significant addition to the local golfing landscape. Built on the site of the former Victoria course (an Arnold Palmer design), it was completely redesigned by four-time Major champion Ernie Els and opened in July 2025.
It is the first Els Club in Europe and the Algarve's first private golf club. Els's team reversed the routing of the back nine and created entirely new holes. In Ernie Els's own words: "People might recognize the environment, but they won't recognize the golf course — it's brand new." In August 2026, Els Club Vilamoura hosted the PGA Champions Tour Portugal Invitational, further cementing its place on the global golf map.
Vilamoura's Wider Evolution: From Golf to Lifestyle
The Vilamoura Golf rebrand must be understood within the broader upgrade of Vilamoura as a comprehensive resort destination.
The new Vilamoura Marina opened in November 2024, adding three pontoons and 68 berths designed specifically for yachts between 20 and 40 metres. These berths come with independent sewage systems, remote water and electricity management, electric boat charging points, desalination facilities and photovoltaic power generation, reinforcing Vilamoura Marina's position as the largest marina in Portugal. João Bugalho, Executive Director of Arrow Global Portugal, noted that this is, in a sense, "rebuilding the original vision of Cupertino de Miranda, reuniting assets that had been dispersed over the years."
At the same time, the Vilamoura Equestrian Centre is undergoing renovation and is set to return to the global show jumping circuit later this year. A state-of-the-art international sports facility is also under development. Details' Sports & Leisure portfolio also includes the Aroeira, Palmares and Vale Pisão courses, forming the largest collection of golf courses in Portugal.

In João Bugalho's words, the goal is to blend Mediterranean charm with the kind of pedestrian-friendly experience found in Southern California.
