There are new and ood reasons to visit the Algarve in 2023, enjoy the Algarve in any season of the year.


João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve, said in an interview, that the Algarve Tourism Region will promote industrial and creative tourism

in the five days of BTL 2023, taking place at FIL between 16 and 20 March.

The Algarve tourism strategy for 2023 foresees the creation of “new reasons for visiting”, including an interpretive centre of the Discoveries in the replica of the caravel Boa Esperança, in Lagos, said the president of the Tourism Region of the Algarve (RTA).

This is one of the projects presented by the president of RTA, João Fernandes, at the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL), which seeks to take advantage of the region's past and history in the period of the Discoveries to expand the tourist offer and reduce seasonality in region.

João Fernandes also highlighted the Exhibition Center of the Fortress of Sagres, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, alluding to the Discoveries and the Portuguese Expansion, which invokes the past and the contribution of Infante Dom Henrique to this goal.

“When opening the Sagres interpretive centre, the Prime Minister himself mentioned how this is an important element for the diversification of the offer and this is one of the mottos of our strategy, which is to generate new reasons for visiting, enriching the visit of those who visit us”, said João Fernandes.

The president of the RTA also said that the project will “transform the Caravela Boa Esperança into an interpretive center on the Portuguese Discoveries, seeking to create another point of attraction for those who visit and live in the Algarve”.

“The 16th century caravel, which is a replica that we have and which has already sailed several times around the world, will now be available for visits”, explained the president of Turismo do Algarve.

Turismo do Algarve is part of the Dynamic Group of the Portuguese Industrial Tourism Network, led by Turismo de Portugal, and is structuring the region's offer associated with living industry and industrial heritage. Practical examples of this offer are the rock salt mine in Loulé, the production and processing of cork in São Brás de Alportel, the production of preserves in Lagoa or olive oil tourism in Olhão.
“The final objective is to publicize this tourist segment and affirm the Algarve as a multi-product destination, with Sun and Sea, Golf, Nautical, Cycling & Walking, Sports, Culture, Gastronomy and Wine, Creative Tourism and Industrial Tourism experiences”, reads if not communicated.

The Algarve's strong day at the fair will be Thursday (the 17th), for which the presentation of news and the strategy of Turismo do Algarve for this year, the presentation of the candidacy for the European City of Wine by the municipalities of Lagoa, Silves, Lagos and Albufeira and also a gastronomic and handicraft demonstration within the scope of the Algarve Craft & Food project.

Creative tourism, represented by Algarve Craft & Food, is precisely one of the bets of Turismo do Algarve for the coming years. ”The idea is to stimulate the development and even the internationalization of cultural and creative industries based on crafts and local food products in the Algarve, through the creation of 10 new cultural and creative tourism programs in the region”, says the region in a statement.
