Duran Duran cancel Algarve show

British rock band Duran Duran will not be performing at the Herdade dos Salgados on 16 August after singer Simon Le Bon developed problems with his vocal cords, forcing the band to cancel their European tour.

Duran Duran canceled show in AlgarveIt has emerged that Simon Le Bon is suffering from blocked muscles that control his vocal cords. As the singer is following a strict treatment plan and despite ongoing physiotherapy, the band has been forced to cancel upcoming concerts planned for this summer, including the concert at Herdade dos Salgados which was part of the Allgarve summer entertainment line-up.

Organisers, Allgarve have issued a statement in which they say they “lament the unforeseen” situation, and are currently studying the viability of a new date or an alternative concert.

Also performing in the Algarve as part of the Allgarve agenda are Morcheeba (22 July, Lagoa), Sofia Escobar and tenor John Addison, in a show dedicated to Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber (23 July, Vale do Lobo, Loulé), and Human League (4 August, Portimão).

Before being forced to cancel their summer concerts Duran Duran had been on tour to celebrate 30 years in the industry, which they poignantly marked with the release of a new album ‘All you Need Is Now’.

The last time the group were in Portugal was in 2008 at the Super Bock Super Rock Festival.
